Underwood
Greg Underwood has taught
English at Pearl River since 1997. He teaches Developmental English
and Composition classes, and sometimes refers to himself in the third person.
Originally from Memphis,
Tennessee, Greg graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1987.
From there, he matriculated at Spring Hill College, in Mobile, Alabama,
where he majored in Accounting and minored in English. Additionally,
he also ate many raw oysters and played rugby. He received his Bachelor
of Science degree in 1991.
A couple of years later,
as Greg journeyed, he came near Damascus, and suddenly there shined about
him a light. He abandoned his foray in to the wonderful world of
accounting, and in the summer of 1993, began graduate work in English at
the University of Memphis. He received his M.A. in 1995, and thereafter
moved to Hattiesburg, where he currently resides, to begin his Ph.D. work
in English at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Now in the dissertation phase
of his doctoral program, Greg specializes in teaching writing and
composition, as well early-modern British Literature, particularly of the
17th century. He has taught a variety of classes, ranging from
basic to technical writing, to British literature surveys. He has
presented his research at various conferences, and has published on the
teaching of writing.
Greg's hobbies include reading,
golfing, eating catfish, and mixing writing genres.
Greg is married to the former
Leigh Ann Lane of Scottsboro, AL. Her silk gown featured a rich embroidery
of sequined pearls and other miscellaneous adornments. After a honeymoon
in Jamaica, the couple resides in Hattiesburg.
